About Me

Frances recently accepted the position for Principal Harp in the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and will be relocating to Colorado this fall for the 2014/2015 season. She achieved her Masters of Music from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music where she received a full scholarship and graduate assistantship for the harp department and assisted her teacher Gillian Benet Sella. While living in Cincinnati, Frances played principal harp with the Cincinnati Symphony, Kentucky Symphony, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Columbus Symphony, and the Queen City Chamber Opera. Prior to CCM, Frances attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated from the Blair School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in harp performance and minor in piano primarily studying with Marian Shaffer. Frances spends her summers at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival where she teaches and performs alongside Marian Shaffer. She began playing the harp at age six with members of her own family at her home in Little Rock, Arkansas. The love of the harp has been passed down through three generations of the Cobb family beginning with her grandmother, Ruth Moore Cobb, who studied and toured with Carlos Salzedo.

Formal Education:

I achieved my Bachelors of Music degree in Harp Performance with a minor in Piano from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Then, I went to the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music where I earned my Masters of Music and also began my Artist Diploma before winning an orchestra job with the Greeley Philharmonic.

Private Education:

I began piano lessons at age 3 and harp lessons when I was 6 with members of my own family. I continue my studies to this day.

Performing Experience:

I first began playing in recitals when I was 3 years old and have been performing ever since. I started playing in weddings when I was 10 and orchestra concerts when I was 11.

Experience Teaching:

I began teaching in 2008 as an assistant to my teacher at Vanderbilt University. Then, in 2009 I joined the faculty at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival where I coached Orchestra, Chamber Music, Solo, and Ensemble playing.
