Learned through a balance of institutional and self-directed study, over 2+ decades intensively studying the core classical repertoire, focusing on Bach (Well Tempered Clavier, Suites); Beethoven (Studying all 32 Sonatas; hoping to video-record all in spring 2015); Chopin (Focus on Ballades, Scherzi, also Etudes, Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Sonatas); Brahms (Focus on op.117-119).
Andrew Ma has over 4 years teaching experien years of music experience in the Chicago area.
Andrew Ma is proficient in and teaches Keyboard and Piano Lessons .Formal Education:
Foundational study Stecher and Horowitz School of the Arts (Cedarhurst, NY), 10 years private lessons, including additional weekly theory class. Continued musical study at State University of New York, Albany. Bachelor's Degree (Interdisciiplinary), University of Chicago.
Private Education:
Have studied most of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier and have general familiarity with other keyboard works (Suites, Partitas, Goldberg Variations); gave studied all of Beethoven's 32 Sonatas, familiarity with several Variation Sets (Eroica, Diabelli); extensive study Chopin's Ballades and Scherzi; strong foundation on Nocturnes, Mazurkas, Etudes. Strong familiarity with Mozart's 19 Sonatas; Schubert Impromptus, Moments Muiscaux, Sonatas
Extensive knowledge of advanced harmony and counterpoint.
Experience Teaching:
Gave private piano lessons to wide range of ages and skill levels (age 8 to University of Chicago Undergraduate students) in Hyde Park 1997-2002
