Steve C- (Write Review) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
For the past six years, I have started several music programs and have worked as a mentor and music teacher for children and youth in West Philadelphia and Upper Darby. My work has mostly taken place teaching guitar, vocals, creative writing and music theory to children and youth who have not had access to music classes within their own schools. In the multiple locations I have implemented music programs, I have taken the approach of teaching children at their own pace, and challenging and engaging each one of them with the material. As a music teacher, I haveseen how music allows youth to find other means of communicating with others, helps them cope in productive and healthy ways, and empowers them to express themselves. The autonomy music theory affords youth has been key in building up more confident and self-assertive individuals. They can then carry this same confidence out into other classrooms and their day to day tasks. I believe I possess the needed combination of knowledge and experience to competently fulfill the requirements for this position. In addition, I would like to highlight other skills I consider relevant. I am creative in my approach to the field, as I adjust my curriculum and teaching techniques to the individual students. I have vast experiences working with children and teenagers from diverse backgrounds and upbringings. I am a self-motivated person who works well in collaborative relationships. I am flexible and able to adapt to different contexts and situations.

Exceptional musician and teacher (10.00)
"I have worked alongside Steve for the past five years, and have continually been impressed by his skills and expertise as a musician and as a teacher. He is a talented performer, with an incredible ability to engage and capture his audience’s attention whether it is in a small intimate venue or on a bigger stage. More importantly, however, he is an incredible teacher and instructor for all skills levels, which is often rare to find. Steve is passionate and enthusiastic in his classes, evoking this same passion in his students. He is creative and flexible as he is always shaping and finding new ways of teaching new material, finding ways to explain complicated lessons in a simple and engaging way. I highly, highly recommend Steve as the innovative, resourceful, knowledgeable and passionate teacher he is. "
An instructor who really does care ! (10.00)
"Steve is a really great instructor. I have been giving guitar and vocal lessons for years and Steve's approach to teaching children is very refreshing. There is not just one way to teach and he proves that over and over. Steve is genuine about giving lessons. Even in group settings he is able to make students feel cared about. I have recommended Steve for many music lessons and the clients are always beyond pleased. "
