Violinist/composer Ilya is a versatile musician with an international foundation for an exciting and developing career that has been honored with numerous prizes and enthusiastically received performances.

Ilya has performed as a soloist in the United States, Russia, Sweden, Italy, and Taiwan. In 2011, Ilya won first place in the American Protégé International Competition and the AFAF Golden Strings Competition. He was also awarded the Distinguished Musician Award at the IBLA Grand Prize International Competition (Ragusa, Italy). In the same year, he participated in the Yankelevitch International Violin Competition (Omsk, Russia). He was also a prize winner at the All-State, Maryland MTNA Competition, and winner of the Peabody Preparatory Concerto Competition. As an emerging violinist at the Peabody Preparatory, Ilya had appeared as soloist with the Peabody Sinfonietta multiple times.

Further, while studying at Peabody Conservatory, Ilya has received the J.C. Van Hulstein Award, for outstanding achievement in string playing, and was also awarded the Lindred Scott Bendann Endowed Scholarship. As a member of the chamber ensemble Ossia, Mr. Dobrovitsky has appeared on WXXI-FM public radio show, "Backstage Pass", hosted by J. Figueras. Other notable performances includes an appearance at the Kennedy Center, as a member of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra and a solo appearance at the Lake George Music Festival (2011, Lake George, NY). Ilya has also participated in numerous international festivals such as: ENCORE School for Strings, Summit Music Festival, and Bowdoin Music Festival. In 2010, Mr. Dobrovitsky was loaned the 1714, “May-Jaquet” Stradivari violin and Sartory bow, by the Eastman School of music.

In an orchestral setting, Ilya has worked with such conductors as: Jaime Laredo, Gustav Meier, and Marin Alsop. A recent, major project has included the making of a professional CD—with soloist Charles Castleman—of the Violin Concerto of Benjamin Boretz—this recording will be released on the Open Space Records CD# 23. As a composer, Mr. Dobrovitsky's works have been premiered in the Eastman School of Music, SMU - Meadows School of Art, Bowdoin International Music Festival, IBLA Grand Prize Competition, and Lake George Music Festival.

Born in Moscow, Russia into a musical family, Ilya began his studies at the prestigious Gnessin School of Music. Upon immigration to the USA, Ilya continued his studies at the Peabody Preparatory and then received his bachelor degree from the Peabody Conservatory and masters from the Eastman School of Music. Currently, Ilya is continuing his studies as a scholarship student in the studio of Emanuel Borok, at the Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX), in the Performance Diploma program. Ilya's teachers have included: Mikhail Kopelman, Victor Danchenko, Cyrus Forough, Natalia Fischtengoltz, Eleonora Polonsky, and Leri Slutsky. Some of the notable master classes in which Ilya has performed have included: Mikhail Kopelman, Aaron Rosand, Joseph Kalichstein, Sylvia Rosenberg, Ilya Kaler, Frank Huang, Stephen Rose, and William Preucil. To continue, in the field of chamber music, Ilya has been coached by, among others, Mikhail Kopelman (of the Borodin, Tokyo, and Kopelman Quartets) and Matt Albert (of the eighth blackbird ensemble).
