About Me

Costa Rican violinist Guillermo studied under Bulgarian pedagogues Borislava Iltcheva, Alexander Iltchev and Kevork Mardirossian in the United States and Bulgaria. He holds an undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and a graduate degree from Southeastern Louisiana University, both in Music Performance. He has shared the stage with conductors and soloists such as Manfred Honeck, Osmo Vänskä, Robert Spano, Yefim Bronfman, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Lang Lang, Renée Fleming, among others, in venues such as the Sala São Paulo, Aspen Music Festival, and the National Theatres of Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Mr. Salas-Suárez was also selected to play in Masterclasses for violinists Pinchas Zukerman, Midori, Cho-Liang Lin, Ilya Kaler, and for members of the Jupiter and ProArte String Quartets. As concertmaster and soloist, he has appeared with the Sewanee Symphony, Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Costa Rica, Louisiana State University Symphony Orchestra, the Honduras Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Camerata San Carlos, with which he recently premiered the violin transcription of Bach’s Concerto in D minor BWV 1056 in Costa Rica. Some of his concerts and interviews have been broadcasted by the Colorado Public Radio, WRKF 89.3, Radio16, and SINART. In the field of Historical Performance, Mr. Salas-Suárez has attended the Tafelmusik Summer Institute, the American Bach Soloists Academy, and the Oberlin Baroque Performing Institute, as well as worked with the McGill Baroque Orchestra (Montréal), Baton Rouge Early Vocal Ensemble, and Ensamble 1910 (San José). He has given lectures and demonstrations about Historical Performance in Costa Rica and Louisiana, where he is currently working on founding a period ensemble. He often performs with a myriad of groups, including the Baton Rouge Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, and the all-contemporary Orquesta Sinfónica de Heredia.
