Anthony W. (Write Review) Douglasville, GA
Anthony has been playing guitar since he was in fourth grade. One year later, he played his first public gig at the Big E exposition in Agawam, Massachusetts, performing guitar duets with a friend in order to advertise the music school where the two took lessons. From high school to the present day, thirty-five years later, he has played guitar professionally in mostly original (and some cover) rock bands. In that time, Anthony has composed literally hundreds of pop/rock songs, and made professional studio recordings of dozens of them. Meanwhile, he has been a featured guitarist on over a hundred recordings by bands he's played in over the years. For the past eleven years, Anthony worked full-time as a high school English teacher, also working with students both in and out of the classroom on musical projects, from songwriting to recording to performing onstage, both with individuals and groups. During this time, he gave individual lessons after school on guitar, bass, and ukulele, and also taught introductory guitar workshops for groups of children and adults through a community outreach program. What Anthony loves best in music is songwriting (he's currently co-writing a musical based on two Shakespeare plays to be performed by high school theater programs). He grew up idolizing The Beatles but soon opened his mind to many other genres of music and is fond of saying he likes everything from Tchaikovsky to Fugazi. That said, the genres of music he is comfortable playing as a guitarist, and is familiar with as a teacher include rock, pop, country, blues, folk, jazz, and even punk music. Anthony's approach as a music teacher is to tailor the lessons to each student's individual interests. Some students want to play just as a hobby, while others may be working on applying to music schools, or trying to develop their skills in order to play music professionally. Some may want to write their own songs, while others are happy learning songs by artists they admire. Some want to learn standard musical notation, others prefer to learn by ear, or use tablature. In each case, Anthony can adapt to suit a student's interests and needs, while helping them to develop their overall musicianship.

"I have known Tony W. for over four years, in the capacity as my son's English teacher, music theory instructor and private music tutor at Eagle Hill School in MA. I can say without qualifications that he has been the most positive influential person in my son's high school experience. He was one that was always there to provide guidance and inspiration to my son as both an educator and musician. He took a special interest in my son's musical and educational progress, always supportive and attentive to this needs. The work with Tony over these past four years was the inspiration for my son to attend college and further his education in music education and technology. We deeply indebted to his service and attention to my son's education and advancement as a musician. He is an outstanding person and dedicated educator.
