David N.- (Write Review) Oklahoma City, OK
I competed in music competitions and honor bands in Middle School, High School and College. I made honor bands in Oklahoma in All OMEA, SWOSU All-Senior Honor band, CODA (Central Oklahoma Directors Association), NWHB (Norhwest Honor Band), Tri-State and the Intercollegiate Honor Band. During college I entered into the United States Army Reserve where I quickly became the principal tubist of the 95th Division Army Reserve Band. I was also appointed the principal Tubist of the Enid Phillips Symphony Orchestra in Enid, OK while I was an undergraduate student at Phillips University. After graduation from College at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK Dec 1993 I started to teach first at Wellston, OK as a long term sub teaching bands and choirs 5th-12th grades. I continued my studies working on my Masters degree in instrumental education I took my first position with Buffalo Public School as the band director for the district winning Sweepstakes at the Junior High Level after being employed only for 3 short months. I left Buffalo after getting married and moved to Texas where I became the middle school band director and assistant high school band director at Linden-Kildare CISD. I was the first middle school director and during my second years the Middle School received Sweekstakes awards. I then left the Linden-Kildare CISD to become the director at Capitol Hill High School in OKC, OK. I stayed there for three years after winning a superior rating at district competition. This was the first superior rating won by CHHS in over 15 years. I then left teaching to pursue a career in sales but even during this time I became an adjunct faculty member at Rose State College where I lead the Jazz Band and taught private applied brass lessons. I went back to teaching public school after a short 4 year break at Millwood Public Schools where I became the Pre K-8 band director and the Millwood Arts Academy orchestra and band director and I helped out at the high school too. I led these band and orchestra programs to several competitions and received several honors along the way but I missed being a High School director so I moved on the Southeast High School in 2007 where I taught the High School Marching Band, concert band and orchestra for 8 years. During this assignment I was assigned other schools to include Webster MS Orchestra, Jefferson MS Band, Coolidge Elementary Band, Roosevelt MS Band.
