Music Lessons in Atlanta

Atlanta is the influential home of multiple styles of hip-hop, but also serves as a nurturing environment for R&B, neo-soul, indie rock, and gospel. Atlanta served throughout the early 20th century as a center for country music, and continues that tradition of quality to this day, being home to artists such as Jason Aldean, Zac Brown Band, Sugarland and Kenny Rogers. The musical collective made up of Outkast, Goodie Mob, Organized Noize, Lumberjacks and Society of Soul (known collectively as The Dungeon Family) ushered in the era of the “Dirty South” style of hip-hop and put Atlanta on the map for listeners worldwide. A little-known fact about Atlanta is that it is the birthplace of the Music Video Era. Founded by Jerry Crowe and Charles Henderson, the TV program Video Concert Hall was the first to introduce Sting’s band The Police to national audiences. Video Concert Hall ran on the USA and Showtime networks and was the first program of its kind to show only music videos from multiple genres. Video Concert Hall predated MTV, starting three years prior in 1979, and introduced the world to the now commonplace practice of music videos.
