About Me

My name is Adell. I have been an artist since the age of 5. Ironically, I didn't learn how to play the guitar until the age of 22. My father was a guitar player as was my grandfather. My father gave me a guitar when I got out of the Navy and taught me guitar theory. I have been playing ever since. My understanding of how music is created has allowed me to teach guitar for ten years now. What I teach is chord structure, solo modes and scales, how to build song parts, and how to improvise over virtually any music being played. I can play rock, blues, funk, jazz, and some latin styles. Typically, a student must build up the hand coordination between both hands first in order to become proficient at playing the guitar. Another area that I focus on is teaching students how to hear their own music. I have a associates degree in Music application, and have a Bachelors Degree in Business Management. I also have a teaching credential which allows me to teach within the school system. Currently I have 8 private students and have two more classes to complete my Masters Degree.

Formal Education:

I have also taken 3 years of advanced music theory at Sacramento City College before switching my degree to Business Management. I currently have a BA in Business Management and am on course to obtain my MBA in March 2011.

Private Education:

I have had 3 personal teachers; Walter Warren Jr. Odell Ross, and Alex Jackson. They showed me the basics over the course of 5 years. During this time span, I practiced at least 5 hours each day.

Performing Experience:

I am currently the Minister of Music at my church and have performed throughout California as well as some private and local club venues on the East Coast.

Experience Teaching:

I have been teaching guitar for 10 years and currently maintain at least 6 to 8 students in my private practice. I teach major and minor modes, scales and soloing techniques,understanding chord progressions and song parts, and much much more.
