I'm a guitar teacher who's been teaching for years. I teach rock, blues, fingerstyle, some bluegrass and some classical, as well as music and fretboard theory. I use method books as a staple but augment lessons with handouts, sheet music, and tab and customize lessons to the students' goals, strengths, and weaknesses.

Beginner - Intermediate
First, fun! Especially with kids, I emphasize learning music as a fun, enjoyable experience that gets more rewarding with consistent practice. I have found that with adults there are often gaps in their understanding of the fretboard and/or music theory. For students of all ages another main goal is to get them playing music as soon as possible. That is, practicing scales and working through method books are great ways to learn and improve, but early on there are real-world applications for basic skills that have the students "playing" music in addition to practicing music.
