Jamayal began as a young cellist at the Cincinnati School for the Creative and Performing Arts. At this time, he developed a proficiency as a composer, that would lead to premiers with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cantus Singers, saxophonist Joseph Eckert and many more. He has performed across the country, and internationally with Cello 12, the Kammermusik Players, as cellist in the Viandante Quarter, the graduate quartet-in-residence at Shenandoah Conservatory, to name a few. He has been the recipient of the Corbett-Mayerson Award [2001], the Presser Scholar Award [2004], Wilkins Award for Outstanding Senior [2005], and winner of the Bach-Handel Competition in 2002, 2003 & 2005.
