5 Years
Hi! My name's Stuart! I've been studying music for about ten years now. I started when I was ten years old and I instantly loved it and I eventually decided to pursue a career in music. After seeing success in high school, I went on to study professionally under the principal trombone player for the Dallas Opera, James Clark in Texas A&M University-Commerce. There my skills as a teacher, as well as a performer, took off. I've taught in many successful music programs including Flowermound ISD, Rowlett, and McKinney ISD. As far as performance, I've played with well-known jazz ensembles namely The Danny Phillips Big Band, and The Kingwood Big Band. I'm currently completing my studies at the University of Houston while keeping my career as a freelance jazz musician in downtown Houston. I'm mostly experienced in teaching high school and college-aged students but am welcome to any ages. All students have a custom curriculum that would best suit them to make sure all students see success. Thanks for looking at my profile! Hope to hear from you soon!
Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Orchestral Lessons
I am primarily classically trained, but I've spent the majority of my performance career in jazz so I am comfortable teaching both. I focus on creating the most efficient and fun way for my students to progress and find fulfilling goals. There is no absolute way to get better because everyone grows and learns in different ways. Expect to do unusual and out-of-the-box techniques in lessons. Jazz students will be required to learn some improvisation, seeing as how it is a very important part of jazz. Orchestral students will have weekly standard excerpts to work on. Students will never be given work they are not prepared for.
