Hi, my name is Lawrence and I am a graduate from Shenandoah University. I have been a student of music since I was 3 years old. My musical influences include anything from the classical/romantic era, jazz, EDM/IDM, and I also enjoy classic rock. My teaching style varies depending on the student; I'm flexible and care that my students really understand the material at hand. In my lessons, you can expect to learn good technique at the instrument as well a solid understanding of the music. My favorite thing about teaching is that my students often teach me just as much as I teach them. My favorite performance was this past New Years Eve, where I played keys with Raised On Analog a classic rock band. I primarily teach piano, but I can also teach violin and voice. What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
My students can expect to learn the fundamentals of how a keyboard player thinks at the keyboard. Notes, chords, inversions, scales, arpeggios and all their correct fingerings. My students can also expect to understand music from a theoretical standpoint. They'll understand why V goes to I etc. They will just learn not just how to recite things at the instrument, but they'll understand the music they are playing.
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
From my vocal lessons, students will learn to understand the voice, and how it works. Next, I'll get them to understand their own voice their ranges and their breaks. I can teach them proper placement. I can teach them how to sing correctly without damaging their voices. In addition to learning a fun repertoire of music, my students will learn how to protect their voices and keep them healthy for the rest of their lives.
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
When I was at Shenandoah University I majored in Music Composition. Composition is my strongest attribute. I can teach them about the history of song stemming from Gregorian chant. Students can expect to understand form and structure of affect I can teach them about how to shape a melody. And If it ever came down to it, I could even get into production.
