About Me

Hi, my name is Shawn, and I am a drummer, guitarist, composer, and music producer, originally from Pittsburgh, now living in South Philadelphia! I have been a student of music for over 15 years. I started by learning percussion at a very young age, and from there began a life-long journey of absorbing musical knowledge. My musical influences include progressive rock and I also enjoy jazz. My teaching style can best be described as a relaxed environment in which reciprocal learning can take place. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I believe anyone can learn anything, so long as time and effort is put in. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how to read music, percussion rudiments, drumset instruction, guitar acoustic and/or electric, including chords, musical theory, scales, and songwriting, as well as recording, mixing, and music production through a variety of software. I like to tell my students that it is necessary to make mistakes, and a wrong note played should never be looked at as an embarrassing mistake-rather a brave and necessary action in the process of learning.
