About Me
I began playing drums at the age of 9. My musical resume includes jazz drum set performance through the Midwest Young Artists program, Big Band drumming with the Highland Park High School Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Percussion @ Ithaca College, Dance drumming at bar mitzvahs, weddings, parties. Drums/bass/live electronics at house shows in Chicago and suburban Illinois Rock, Hip-hop, Jazz. Styles: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Hip Hop, Punk, Electronic, Ambient, Noise, etc. I have been a party performer for 4Sure Entertainment, drummed for the acts Midnight in Montana, Slingjaw Wrasse, Leisure Guys, Subcataneous, and Pleasantries. I have studied under multiple drum/percussion teachers and professionals, such as John Knecht, Michael Rieandeau, and Greg Evans. I have done workshops with Chicago musicians Jeremy Kahn, Fernando Jones, Tom Hipskind, Nick Alvarez. I can help any player find THEIR natural groove and rhythmic personality! I LIVE the drums, and can’t wait to jump into helping you achieve all of your percussive potential! Available to meet at my home in Highland Park, my rehearsal space in the West Loop, or in the comfort of your own home!

What to expect in my Drum Lessons
Beginner - Intermediate
To start, a firm foundation of snare drum rudiments, with use of a metronome, to get down the basics of rhythm as a language. Brief history of the modern drumset and its evolution. Drum philosophy and the application/need for drums in society. Sticking technique, counting out loud, RL coordination between hands/feet. How to go about learning/transcribing drum beats/parts, proper and economical forms of practice. The basics of groove, bass guitar interplay/chemistry, as well as drum soloing. Playing drums as a "timekeeper" VS. playing "Lead" drums with enhanced melodic expression. These tools + many many more!!
