About Me

Tyquon--Ty for short--has always loved music from an early age. He began singing at the age of ten and continued his education by obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and joining both the University Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensemble at North Carolina Central University. His musical influences include Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, and John Legend. Ty's favorite thing about music is the creation and his favorite thing about teaching music is watching his students grow as musicians. One of his favorite teaching experiences was when he watched one of his students perform for the first time in front of a crowd and exceeding their own expectations. When taking lessons with Ty, you can expect to learn more about yourself as a musician and as a person while gaining the musical knowledge needed to be successful as a vocalist. What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

- Intermediate - Advanced

Students can expect to gain the technical skills needed in both the Jazz and classical genres and ways to incorporate them in more contemporary styles. As a student you will focus on technique, vocal tonality, and endurance. We will also focus on how to keep the voice healthy before, during, and after performances. My students can also expect to learn how to perform music that they love.

Formal Education:

Private Education:

I have received at least 3 years of private lessons from Jazz Vocal recording artist, songwriter, and composer Lenora Helm Hammonds.

Performing Experience:

Ty has at least 10 years of performing experience from singing in church choirs, competitions, vocal groups (jazz ensemble and university choir) and other performing credits in many genres including jazz, gospel, r&b, pop, and rock.
