1 Years
Gabriel began studying music theory at the age of 21. Over the years, he developed his skills further by practicing keyboard. He gained performance experience in the vocal/theater performance area while studying Theater at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which he attended on a full-ride performance scholarship. He is also a skilled and trained songwriter. Though Gabriel can teach many genres of music, his musical personal favorites is classical which had great influence on his style of music. Gabriel loves music because it is the best human expression and involves math knowledge when it comes to music theory which he enjoys and loves teaching music because he had great teachers in piano at a young age, which he desires to emulate. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, Gabriel can help you expand and enhance your playing. Gabriel is excited to learn how he can help you reach your musical goals. Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Song Writing Lessons
I can help stunts unrstand basic lessons on scale, rhythm, using a metronome, chords, chord progression, counterpoint, intervallic playing, as well as introductions into mos. Moreover, I can introduce the ias of sevenths, ninths, elevenths, and so on, while incorporating an introduction to jazz chords and different voicings. I can also teach stunts how to build chords using intervals and study of whole steps and half steps. Finally, I can introduce finger warm ups to aid.
What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
I offer a good lesson on warm-ups. That is the extent of my vocal lessons as I am more of a theater trained vocalist, having performed in Shakespeare productions. I also sing in the shower but I am not too confint as a professional coach for singers yet.
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Stunts can expect to write songs based on a method I learned from Tony Award winner Stew Passing Strange. It involves a Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Bridge-Verse-Chorus structure. I will also involve my experience as a performer of a Hip Hop Theater Ensemble, which produced countless shows and incorporated music, to help stunts craft songs and velop themes consistent with strong music expression. Also, I help with progressions and finding ways to incorporate music theory to better bridge lyrics with sounds.
Formal Education:
University of Wisconsin-Madison Degrees: English and Theater
Private Education:
Music Theory (Self-Taught)
Performing Experience:
I earned a full-ride artistic scholarship from the First Wave Theater Ensemble to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I earned my Bachelor's of Arts there in theater and English (Creative Writing). I performed my one-man show Wheelz at New York's Hip Hop Theater Festival in 2012 at the Ohio Theater and wrote the Mary Lou Williams Centennial project's show presented at the Overture Center in Madison, WI (as well as performed).
Experience Teaching:
In Madison, WI I wrote the proposal, designed and taught the final curriculum and directed the annual showcase for a high school introduction to stage performance, DJ’ing and creative writing through Hip Hop. I've also conducted numerous workshops on poetry and hip hop. Moreover, I taught a private student last year (a producer learning music theory).
