As a songwriting teacher, I encourage students to do away with cliches and bland phrasing, instead opting for unusual or unexpected lyric choices to drive a song home. We will discuss modulation and chord changes along with other facets of song-craft. As an exercise, we will attempt to write songs in the styles of various famous artists and bands.
