Degree and Field of Study:
What to expect in my Guitar Lessons
Students will gain an understanding of the guitar unlike that of their peers. Most teachers teach guitar based on the concept of "movable shapes." They teach chord shapes and scales which can be moved up and down the neck. Learning a chord or scale in this manner is like receiving a piece for a puzzle that has no example picture. In the end youre left with many pieces and no idea how to connect them and what image theyre supposed to make. My students will learn where these "movable shapes" come from and will immediately come to understand the bigger picture and how all these pieces fit together. They will find that learning guitar is not like putting together a puzzle but like painting. Musical terms are kept at a minimum in order to increase the students understanding of the underlying fundamental concepts that most instructors are simply unaware of of. These fundamental concepts do not only apply to guitar, but all instruments so do not be surprised if after taking these lessons your understanding of guitar touches upon understanding music as a whole. As well as learning guitar students will also learn the fundamentals of songwriting and improvising. By the end of these lessons students will be able to spontaneously create fully original songs due to their understanding of the fundamentals of guitar, music, and song. Singing is encouraged, but not taught.
