About Me

My name is Robert D., &music is my girlfriend. We met almost 20 years ago & I've been hooked ever since. We began through Saxophone. Long nights of frustration & what would seem to be arguments in A flat. It wasn't until age 11 that I would appreciate her bouquet of buttons & springs, & soon as I did the awards were low hanging fruit. District honor band, 1st chair, field major. Honestly there were no limits to her & I. I found a home for my heart.

Years later I was enticed by yet another image of music, as she began to show me the black & white of her history. A moment she named Piano. Sax had me, but I never knew I could go so high & low. The language of Piano was Theory, & I yearned to understand. For years I've toiled through pages & records to learn the language. And now that I have? I feel almost obligated to share it with those who want to hear it. On top of looking cool? Music has opened my mind & heart to the idea of endless opportunity, a concept that brought me to Taylor Robinson. Like a great movie, everyday I find something new within the notes & signatures. From Charlie Parker, to Grover Washington Jr., or Nat King Cole & Art Tatum. Music is a language. Whether its a whimsical stride by Count Basie keeping you on your toes, or Herbie Hancock giving you a little funk in your step, soon as you heard it, without a word being said you felt what they were saying.

That...that feeling there is why I starting teaching. Whether it's saxophone or piano, my student can expect to understand not only their instrument, but the beautiful language of music as a whole.
