Joshua M.
Keyboard and Piano Lessons
Home
Hi, my name is Joshua, and I am a pianist from Waco, Texas. I am a full-time piano performance major at Baylor, and I have studied piano for nine to ten years, now. I am classically trained on piano, but I play jazz and pop as well. My teaching will likely consist primarily of classical music, but I am open to giving instruction in jazz as well. While I do not have much teaching experience yet, I have received thorough instruction from the Baylor faculty on how to teach piano. My teaching philosophy centers around my students' well-being. Music is meant to enrich our lives as people; people do not exist to create music. I never sacrifice my students' well-being or mental health for the sake of musical progress. Teaching is incredibly fun for me, and I want learning and performing to be fun for my students. I hope to meet you soon!
What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons
I will help students develop proper classical technique and theory, which will enable them to venture into other genres, like jazz, rock, or Christian. Classical training also helps avoid muscle and tendon injuries, such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. For beginning students below the age of 10, I recommend lessons last 30 minutes as a baseline. Taking into account a student's level of experience and/or age, lessons might last from 30 minutes to an hour. Parents are required to purchase the correct instructional books and sheet music I will inform as to what to buy. I can also purchase the books myself, but I ask that parents and/or students reimburse me afterwards.
