1 Years
Hello all, I am currently a performing bassist in several different bands around the Chattanooga area. I have been playing Bass for about 3 years but have been playing music my entire life. I started out on Trumpet in fourth grade and played until the end of college. I went to Savannah Arts Academy in high school as a music major and was first chair in both Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band as an upper classmen. I made Allstate Jazz Band and Wind Symphony my senior year of high school as well. In college, I was first chair in both Jazz Band and concert band as GCSU and later transferred to UGA and received a minor in Jazz Studies under the instruction of David D'Angelo. I picked up Bass guitar towards the tail end of college and stuck with it ever since.
Degree and Field of Study:
Award Name:
What to expect in my Bass Guitar Lessons
I am first and foremost here to teach the student, not the subject. Thus, I do not believe in a one size fits all model, especially when it comes to music. Each student has a specific desire in wanting to play, thus I will want to get to know you first as a player and student in order to cater my teaching to exactly what you want. Students should expect to learn about the fundamentals of the instrument through learning specific songs, styles, or musical phrases so desired by the student. I will use exercises that will help you gain both a better understanding of how to play your instrument while also touching on key music concepts including Major and Minor keys, modes, scales, arpeggios, and rhythm. I will do this by creating exercises that is specific to what the student wants to learn while also introducing ear training exercises and theoretical concepts that is catered to each individual's level. Thus, if a student is simply learning how to play their instrument and is a beginner then we will not spend much time on big theory concepts but rather just learning the fundamental techniques. If there is something the student would rather spend more time on whether its a specific technique, or specific type of theory like learning how to walk a blues line then I will spend more time on that. What students can also expect is to have something to be working on outside of class in between sessions. Consistency is key in gaining any type of skill.
