I am a sci-fi geek who has an eclectic taste in music--Bluegrass to EDM, and every genre in between! In college, we used to debate the significance of the musical product versus the musical process. The music education majors always valued musical product over the process, but we music therapy majors knew that a focus on the process of music-making should take priority over a pleasing product because not EVERYONE was born like Mozart. I have worked with individuals of many ages, with and without disabilities--such as, a 4-year old whose parents just want them to learn a piece on a piano all the way up to an 87-year old who wanted to learn the clarinet again since she used to play in high school. If you focus EXCLUSIVELY on product, then the 4-year old gets frustrated, and the 87 year old could become depressed.
