Hi, my name is Kay and I am a drummer from Sonora, CA. I will be residing in Kansas City in the fall of 2023, and am looking forward to seeing the area! I have been a student of music for thirteen years. I began playing guitar at the age of 12 and drums at 13. In high school I did 4 years of marching band, pep band, concert band, and jazz band, and three years of drum line. In spring of 2023 I completed my BM in Jazz Studies. My musical influences include Herbie Hancock and Buddy Rich, and I also enjoy bands like Green Day. My teaching style can best be described as empathetic facilitation. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I like to teach my students to be the best musician and person they can be. In my lessons, you can expect to learn a variety of skills that range from basic musicianship to advanced techniques. I like to tell my students that I fully believe in them and their abilities and expect them to learn to believe in themselves the same with time. My favorite thing about teaching is watching my students eyes light up when they finally achieve the goals we’ve been working towards in our lessons. My favorite performance was my Senior Recital that I performed in order to receive my bachelors degree in Jazz Studies My students love that I try to get on their level and teach them in ways that are suited to their learning styles. I primarily teach drums, but I can also teach percussion, guitar, piano, and bass guitar.
