I have lived in the Northwest for the majority of my life. I grew up in a mountain town called Sandy, where I remained until age 19 when I moved to Portland. I began playing piano at age 10, though never developed a substantial adeptness, mostly using the instruction as a basis for theory. I I began playing guitar towards the end of middle school, and since then have been self taught, excepting a few lessons. I took saxophone lessons throughout middle and high school and played many concerts on the instrument. Throughout high school until today, I have played in two of my own eclectic rock groups, Neon Culpa, and Don Geisel and the Vexes, and have played about 300 shows with the groups. For the past year I have focused on recording and playing solo shows around town. I consider myself a patient and effective teacher, capable of implementing realistic lesson plans for beginner and intermediate players of all age groups on guitar. I also can effectively teach the basics of bass and home recording. I have written over 100 songs, and have extensive knowledge of song structure, and am capable of passing that knowledge to students.

Charles W has over 2 years of music experience in the Portland area.
Charles W is proficient in and teaches .Formal Education:
I played saxophone in my school band for 7 years, 4 of which I received private lessons, creating for me a foundation in music theory. I played bass for 2 years in the school jazz and choir bands, and guitar in the jazz band for 2 years as well in high school.
Private Education:
I received the above-mentioned saxophone lessons, as well as 2 years of piano lessons, and taught myself guitar and rhythm section instruments.
Performing Experience:
I performed concerts for 7 years in school groups on a variety of instruments, and for 8 years in musical groups of my own creation. In 2007 I went on a 26 date national House of Blues tour opening for Portland band Everclear, and have played a variety of other events, including the 2008 Rose Festival, the majority of premier Portland venues, such as the Crystal Ballroom and the Aladdin Theater, and a variety of successful outdoor 4th of July festivals I put on myself.
Experience Teaching:
I taught guitar travelling to the homes of students for 2 years. I had 5 students. It has been well over a year since I've given a lesson, but still have effective lesson plans prepared to be implemented at any time.
