John began playing guitar, bass and singing at the age of 20. Over the years, he developed his skills further by practicing consistently and comprehensively, both learning from others in person, online, and exploring instruments, music theory, and the voice on his own. He gained performance experience in the greater Charlottesville area by playing at such venues as Fellini's, Rapture, Moe's, Miller's, The Whiskey Jar, Pro Re Nata, The Southern & many more between Richmond and Staunton and with acts such as Us, Sisters & Brothers, Dillon & Friends, Louis Smith & Friends, Long Strange Night, Josh Mayo & The House Sauce and others. Though John can teach many different genres of music, his musical personal favorites are Blues, Americana, Rock & Roll, Funk, and Jam/Improv which had great influence on his style of playing. John loves music because not only does music heal, its also an infinite space to explore and create and loves teaching music because each musical voice is unique and special, and nurturing peoples confidence and ability to self express in a healthy and creative way is always rewarding.
