About Me

Hi there! My name is Joia. Music has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up listening to Earth, Wind, and Fire, James Brown, Carole King, The Beatles, Billy Idol, Prince, Rage Against the Machine, Michael Jackson and so much more. I have been playing piano since I was 11, and producing music since 2010. I have over 100 songs and mixes on all streaming platforms, including a debut EP called "Movement Music Vol. 1" which blends crunchy bass music with hip-hop and funk. I am also a studied audio engineer, having recorded, mixed, and mastered close to 30 songs, professionally. In my lessons, I love to focus on teaching my students the "language" of music--including its "syntax," "grammar," and "vocabulary." I enjoy helping students feel as comfortable as possible on the piano, as quickly as possible. We'll learn songs that match their aptitude, as well as hand and finger techniques to build coordination and independence. I specialize in making theory fun and applicable, and I hope to have all my students create a personal relationship with music that lasts a lifetime!
