About Me

Hello! I began studying piano around the age of 5. Singing was a normal part of our household,, so I fell in love with harmonies at a very young age. Other instruments that I've studied are piano, flute and some percussion; the flute & piano became my focus besides singing. With piano and flute, I have played in my high school jazz band, various pit bands for music theater, and in some Nashville, TN recording studios. Vocally, I have recorded with several groups and bands, did demo work for several songwriters, and have sung both lead and back-up in several bands including: cover bands, contemporary gospel groups, family groups, church bands/praise teams, and choirs. I hold an Associates Degree in Music-vocal concentration and have performed in various venues here in the States as well as in Paris, France. I am very experienced in both vocal and instrumental performance and have a passion for spreading the love of music to others. In addition, I have done some research into music therapy, but I am NOT a licensed music therapist. I truly believe in the power of music to help in many different ways in and out of a school setting. I am currently teaching privately and would love to assist others on their musical journeys!

What to expect in my Keyboard and Piano Lessons

Beginner -

*The piano student should expect to engage in a full study of music theory, piano technique, performance, improvisation, reading and writing music, ear training, and general lessons that combine each component. My preference is the Piano Adventures series by Faber & Faber, but I have also taught with Beanstalk, Alfred, and Bastien. If the student has already started in a series other than Piano Adventures, we can discuss how to proceed; I am very flexible. The student is expected to practice regularly in order to move forward in their books. Every student learns at a different pace; I meet the student where they're at in each lesson and am always available if there are any questions. The student will be required to have all books at each lesson (Theory, Technique, Lesson Book, and Performance). As the student progresses, the Dozen a Day series will be added to their regular books and at some point the Hanon exercises may be introduced.
