Voice, as a major performing medium, is designed to introduce the student to correct vocal production and good performance practice and to help the student build upon the student’s present ability and encourage the gradual growth of the voice in strength and facility. Students can expect to learn • Good breath management so that phrasing, expression, and appropriate musical interpretation are a natural outcome Resonance and audibility • Range requirements for the classical performer • Good diction using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as a primary tool • Ability to execute proper intonation, rhythm, and tempi in relation to the accompaniment • Good vocal health • Approaches to the preparation of music for performance
