First I like to get to understand my students and what it is exactly they want out of there practice. Some desire the ability to play a favorite song while others want to know chords first. In each scenario I'd lay down basic knowledge of the instrument, like proper posture and tuning. Students should expect to try new things that should be practiced at least 30 minutes a day outside of lessons involving chords, strumming patterns, scales, and even songs. Once the student elaborates their goals to me, I will offer homework correlated to their interests that will allow a smooth sailing practice routine for the student.
