I grew up in Kenya East Africa, and moved to the States in 1996 to study music Education.
My teaching philosophy is a simple one: To help the student express their own voice through their instrument while helping them become a better performer.
Through the use of pedagogy, I emphasize to my students the importance of fundamentals, so they are able to move in and out of different genres of music without feeling bound to one.
My goal is to teach the student how to have fun while moving them toward their goal.
Performance after all is the end result of the lessons. In my lessons, I make sure to go over the etiquette of performing with others and the importance of self respect as a performer, respect of to other musicians, respect to the composer and respect to the audience.
My musical influences range from Bob Marley to Rage against the Machine.
My favorite drummers are Manu Katche, Steve Gadd, Vinni Calialuta and Benny Grabb.
Classical music has been a big influence in my musical career. Chopin is one of my favorite composers.
I also teach Djembe lessons.
