About Me

Alex Jiheng Alex’s Interaction with music started when he was 4 years old. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, and his doctoral degree in composition from the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. has more than 10 years of teaching experience. He has been teaching music theory and aural skills for both major and non-major students at the University of Maryland. He has also been teaching piano at the University of Delaware Community Music School, various music studios, and privately. He is versatile and be able to adjust his style of teaching to meet the needs of diverse groups of students. has been invited for talks/presentations on topics of music theory and compositional skills across the world. Alex was trained professionally on performing piano and organ. As a fine pianist, he has rich experience in solo and collaborative piano, and has appeared with soloist, chamber ensembles, choirs, symphony orchestras, and opera theatres. He refined his collaborative piano skills under the guidance of many leading pianists, including Dr. Charles Abramovic, Prof. Zhihua Tang, Prod. Xiaoxue Sun, and Prof. Howard Watkins. Alex was a selected pianist for the annual Trustee Retreat at the University of Delaware in 2017/2018. As an active composer, Alex is accomplished in contemporary concert music, cutting edge audio/video technology, and commercial music for the ever-changing music industry. His commissions, which have a variety of genres including classical, Chinese folk music, world, popular, and jazz, have been performed internationally by established musicians and artists.
