About Me
Hi, my name is Melvin, and I am from New Orleans, La. I have been a student of music my entire life. My musical influences include blues, jazz, and gospel but I also enjoy all forms of music. My teaching style can best be described as student centered and hands-on. As a student, it is all about you while developing your playing skill and confidence. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I believe collaboration and open communication is key to learning. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how to sight read, proper bass fingering technique, scales, and a song or music piece of your choice. I like to tell my students being good does not happen right away. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing the progress of my students. My students love that I am committed to their interest. I primarily teach bass guitar, but I can also teach elementary piano. My approach as a teacher is constructing a framework of instruction that is set to the students' knowledge. Thanks for taking a look at my profile. Hope to meet you soon!
