He began playing guitar at the age of 9 and continued his education by studying theory, learning other instruments, and playing in several bands with varying styles and genre. Ryan's favorite thing about music is the emotional outlet it provides, and his favorite thing about teaching music is bringing this outlet to others. One of his favorite teaching experiences was teaching inmates in correctional settings, and watching music create meaning in their lives where there might not have been any previously.
