Hello! My name is Matthew and I am a guitarist from Athens, GA. I have been a student of music for 18 years and try to learn something new each week. I find inspiration in all genres of music, especially rock, metal, jazz, funk, lo-fi, and neo soul. As a teacher, I tailor my approach to each student to ensure they learn what they want to learn in addition to the essential skills all developed musicians possess. In my lessons, you can expect to learn lead guitar techniques, improvisation methods, music theory, tone shaping, and more. I try to instill a sense of creative rule-breaking in all my students, as many of my favorite compositions are the products of musicians that were unafraid to color outside the lines. The best part of teaching is seeing progress over time. Best show I’ve ever seen was Van Halen at Philips now State Farm Arena in 2008, but Paramore in 2014 is a close second. I’ve been in countless bands since high school and currently play covers with some of the most talented musicians I know. I primarily teach guitar, but I can also teach bass. As a teacher, it’s my goal to inspire the musician to harness the unique attributes and quirks in their playing to create innovative sounds and break out of the box.
