About Me
JAZZ / FUSION / ECLECTIC / POST BE-POP
I've been playing drums professionally over 35 years and bridged the fusion gap while at Berklee College of Music in the late 70's.
I love the jazz tradition and what improvisation brings to the table for all genres. I've played in rock bands, jazz trios, R&B bands, country bands, jazz/classical groups, classical orchestras, intense B3 groups, experimental ensembles, etc.
Philip F. Ma. has over 30 years of music experience in the Melbourne Beach area.
Philip F. Ma. is proficient in and teaches Drum Lessons .Formal Education:
4 Years Music School. University of Arkansas and Berklee College of Music. BA Degree from a Business School in Iowa.
Private Education:
10 Years snare drum in Little Rock, Arkansas - Private Instruction
Jazz Drums with Bob Steele 4 years- (one of the original faculty at Berklee).
Drums and Vibraphone.
Took extra lessons while in College with intructors outside the school. My teaching is mainly in the Alan Dawson technique on drums. I'm very strong with Jazz and Fusion.
Performing Experience:
Have been playing professionally off and on for about 30 years in Denver, L.A., Austin, and Sacremento.
Experience Teaching:
I taught for years at a local music stores until getting into IT and making more money. I even taught at the graduate school level at Grinnell College in Iowa where Herbie Hancock went to school. I have not taught for years but know the routine. I would like to get back into teaching and playing and am excited to bring on new students
