About Me

Hi, my name is Javier, and I am a music educator from Compton. I have been a student of music for all my life, but started taking private lessons at the age of 19. My musical influences include jazz, salsa, cumbia, ska, rocksteady, reggae, rock, classical, film scores, but I enjoy just about any genre. My teaching style can best be described as hands on with lots of care and patience. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that everyone can learn how to make art, no matter how young or old; it's never too late and it's never too early. In my lessons, you can expect to learn fundamentals, technique, and music theory along with a heavy emphasis on literature/repertoire I like to tell my students to keep at it, because you never know when you'll be ready to JAM! My favorite performance was Spanish Harlem Orchestra, they played at CCSUN2018, that was my first concert ever. iIprimarily teach trombone, but I can also teach just about any instrument.
