About Me

Hello! My name is Thomas. I am a bassist and a pianist from Batavia IL who is finishing a degree in music composition at Carthage College. I started my own musical journey by writing music in my basement when I was in middle school. Since then, I have continued with both acoustic and electronic composition. Not long after starting my compositional journey, I found a love for the bass guitar as well as piano. Through these, I have found my own musical voice that has not only helped shape my composition but has allowed me to collaborate with other musicians effectively. I currently play in a band as a bassist however I have played with various groups at venues such as churches and schools. As a pianist, I have performed various compositions such as my own works at my college. I am also the tutor for piano and other keyboarding classes at my school. It is also worth noting that I have about seven years of vocal experience and sing in Carthage College's flagship choir Carthage Choir. This is a touring group that has taken me to both Minnesota and Washington D.C. and is currently planning a tour to the United Kingdom. So what can you expect by being my student? For both bass and piano, I enjoy incorporating both music composition as well as improvisation into my teaching. I believe that this is a good place for students to learn how to apply technical principles such as music theory and technique to their playing while still being able to express themselves and find their own musical voice. I also enjoy teaching other songs by sheet music or tabs as this can serve as a wonderful way to strengthen sight-reading abilities. Overall I am very flexible and am more than willing to teach in a variety of ways that cater to the strengths of a particular student.
