About Me

Hi, my name is Valerian and I am an opera singer from Buffalo NY. I have been a student of music for 50 years. My musical influences include chorale, pop, opera and Broadway and I also enjoy jazz and the American songbook. My teaching style can best be described as true and natural. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I want to find your true voice and I want singing to be as natural and as free and easy. In my lessons, you can expect to learn how to train your own voice and know what to look for in order to sing well and correctly. I like to tell my students to sing with their real voice and not a put on voice. We are not here to mimic famous singers but to find your own voice and nurture it. My favorite thing about teaching is when a student realizes the great potential they have and they begin to teach themselves because they are enthusiastic about singing. My favorite performance was my debut at the Metropolitan Opera in Carmen. My students love that I perform all over. I can teach all styles of singing but I have an emphasis on classical. My approach as a teacher is to have you relax into your voice and not be so self conscious about every sound you make. We all make mistakes and making mistakes is part of learning how to sing better.
