Hi I’m Laurel! I began playing piano at 8 years old and it’s been such a rewarding journey. I currently go to school for music therapy and jazz piano, and have made it my life’s mission to learn, teach, and practice music any chance I can get. I am very involved in the local music scene under my stage name Laurel Joy. I have played venues from Connecticut’s park city music hall, to New Yorks Bowery electric. I am a pianist for many emerging artists and upcoming bands, including BODHI, Sb khi, and Modern Refuge. Here my pianist skills have been featured on their Spotify. I have a passion for songwriting and creation, as well as jazz piano. I have taught children and teens rock, jazz, songwriting, and ear training the last 4 years. My roots are also in church music, so I will also emphasize sight reading hymns to those who practice religion. I strongly believe that songwriting and ear training are integral parts of musical learning, as well as sight reading, repertoire development, and promotion skills for those who hope to develop a career in music. I like to make my lessons fun and interesting! I add much of what I’ve learned in music therapy and music teaching into my work, as well as my experience coming up in the music scene.
