About Me

My name is Rosa and I have been playing the piano/keyboard since I was 5 years old. I took lessons from the late Christina Ricci who lived in San Leandro, California. She was a concert pianist. She taught me music theory and I learned to play a variety of music. She favored ragtime and classical music and instilled in me a passion for music by Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky just to name a few. I played classics like Moonlight Sonata, Minute Waltz, Maple Leaf Rag and others. She was not too fond of modern music but taught me none the less more modern pieces at my insistence. I have played in recitals and at school. I have also played at our church. She has been my mentor and I give credit to her for the education and the talent that she has instilled in me. But though playing sheet music has been the foundation of my musical experience and I value it highly, nothing has developed my talent greater than learning to play by ear on my own. The pleasure I get from creating a musical piece or composing my own song is inmeasurable. I believe the combination of these two, learning to play notes and learning to play by ear is a valuable gift you can give any student!
