Hi, my name is Micah, and I am a 31-year-old classical singer from Los Angeles. I have been a student of music for 20 years. My musical influences include opera, musical theater, and contemporary music, and I also enjoy playing guitar. My teaching style can best be described as growth based. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that everyone has the potential to discover their next big breakthrough. In my lessons, you can expect to learn fundamentals, artistic delivery, control, and technique, and a fun and healthy method of making music. I like to tell my students never stop singing, never stop creating. My favorite thing about teaching is when it 'clicks' for the student. My favorite performance was as Horton the Elephant in Seussical. My students love that I encourage and believe in them, and also help them grow. I primarily teach voice, but I can also teach guitar. Formal Education:
I started my formal education of vocal music in highschool where I was accepted to the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts (LACHSA). Studying music theory, vocal performance, and gathered experience through choral classes, Opera and Musical Theater classes. I studied music further at Pasadena City College taking five years of vocal performance studies, furthering my experience in Opera, and Chorale through various performance groups, as well as studying musicianship, music theory, and peer review.
Private Education:
Privately I started studying vocal music at 12. Beginning with fundamentals before entering LACHSA. I studied privately throughout highschool, college, and post-college with a myriad of teachers for the next 15 years I was last studying Bel Canto (beautiful singing) in Minneapolis.
Performing Experience:
I have been performing frequently with some occasional hiatus since high school. I have performed in many musicals, operas, stage plays, and countless choral concerts. I’ve also had some wonderful success winning karaoke contests.
Experience Teaching:
Teaching (formally) is a bit new to me. I started teaching on Maui at a trade school and expanded into giving lessons to members if the community theater community. I have since continued substitute teaching as I acclimate to Baltimore working primarily with grades PreK-8th. I have also given lessons to members of my community choir in preparation for concerts as well as give advice to singers in my choral section where I am a staff singer/section lead.
