About Me
Hello! I attended college on a music scholarship, earned primarily from vocal music. Although my degree is in Nursing, I worked part-time as an RN and taught voice, piano, and guitar part-time for over 20 years! I have led Kingdom Kids at a local church, with musical performances in the Sunday church service monthly, as well as Christmas and Easter productions that included dance, art sets, drama, and, of course, singing. I led a teen praise band to carry the modern worship service. I taught guitar to beginners as well as a guitar orchestra at a private school for 4 years. One of my guitar/voice/piano students made it into the top 10 on American Idol! Another won top honors at the Coca-Cola Classic and National Irish Feis. Several former students have been music majors in school, have become music teachers, and have performed at fairs and jamborees. Others have quietly loved their craft and played music or sang as an amazing pastime. Others have performed in praise bands, rock bands, choirs, and community theater. I also taught music classes for Oldham County Homeschoolers and Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve Kentucky History Camp. I sing and play guitar, piano, hammered dulcimer, and mountain dulcimer. I begin with developing a supportive working relationship, and I gain the student's goal for music study. I focus upon gaining solid basics of reading music, and fundamentals of music theory. I also include aural training as well as chord and song structure, to allow playing by ear or joining a jam session, after identifying the key of the song. Mostly, I teach to create a wholesome hobby, a new and beautiful life experience, and a richer life. I meet each student where he or she is at. I am supportive, and I simplify and teach in an understandable way. People of all ages are comfortable with me, and I seek to set up every student for success. I seek to build confidence and skill for students of all ages!
