Hi, my name is Abi and I am a Commercial Music Student on my last year of my undergrad at Texas Tech University. I'm originally from Denver, Colorado, but now living in Seminole and Lubbock, Texas. I have been a student of music for 10 years. I am a songwriter with influences in rock, punk, indie, folk, and worship music. I also enjoy bees and art. My teaching style can best be described as learning music theory and then applying it to the music you create or wish to learn. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that anyone can learn music, it is a skill just like anything else in life. In my lessons, you can expect to learn music theory and application, as well as have a nurturing environment for songwriting and expression. I like to tell my students to create and share their stories through the pieces of music they write or perform. My favorite thing about teaching is allowing aspiring musicians a place where they can develop in their talents away from judgement. A favorite performance of mine was playing a live set at a house show venue in Lubbock, Texas, This was my first solo performance in a venue like this, and I am now booked to play at a backyard show this coming summer. I want to show my students the possibilities that getting out there and playing music can bring. If they wish to perform or just learn as a hobby, I encourage my students to perform when they get to a place where they are ready. Whether at an open mic or a talent show, I can help my students build the confidence they need behind their musical abilities to go out and experience music in this way. My students love that I am energetic, empathetic, and easy to talk to. I primarily teach voice, but I can also teach beginning guitar, piano, and songwriting lessons.
