A little about me: I'm a drummer of around 32 years, 27 of them being in professional gigging bands who've toured the southeast region of the U.S. and Virgin Islands. I was lucky to have been under the tutelage of Johnny Vidacovich, a master drummer/musician in New Orleans, who taught me not only about being a technical drummer, but truly playing for the music. I am now giving back the knowledge I received. Having played as a sideman for so many years has afforded me the ability to play multiple genres including: funk, jazz, rock, reggae, blues, bluegrass, and New Orleans second line. On my method: Teaching is about musical sensitivity to the student's needs and to that point I craft individually tailored curriculums. I teach all levels, from beginners new to the instrument to more advanced students studying musicality. Ultimately, my goal as a teacher is to teach how to play music. I believe that we should strive to learn how to play music, not just technical exercises, which is why I focus on playing songs supported by technique. A student should walk away from a lesson knowing the basic building blocks of the songs in which they are interested, as well as the knowledge of how to support playing those songs (which is where the technicalities come into play).
