About Me

Maxim Johnson, guitar teacher, composer, arranger. In 2001 he graduated with honors from the Pop Department of the Pavlodar Music College named after P.I. Tchaikovsky, class of teacher Staverov S.V. In 2005 he received a higher musical education at Pavlodar University (diploma with honors). From 2002 to 2024,M.J. worked as a teacher at the Pavlodar Music College in the Pop Instruments Department, electric guitar class. He created a large number of arrangements, transcriptions, phonograms for guitar and pop ensemble. He trained more than 30 musicians who are now successfully working in different cities of Europe and Asia. His students are laureates of various music competitions, constantly participate in various concert events. Throughout his creative path,M.J. wrote music for plays, musicals, original songs, and his music is also used in advertisements and various YouTube videos. For about 20 years he has been collaborating with various conductors, producers, directors and professional musicians-performers. Among them are Sheikin V. T. (Honored Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, conductor), Shlegel V. A. (Conductor of the Wind Orchestra), Timur Sharipov (Moscow), Promch (Moscow), Steve Kiriakidis (Athens), Emisael Carrera (Venezuela), film producer Furkhat Saipov (Astana), etc. Since 2002,M. I. has been working as a teacher at the State Institution “Pavlodar Music College-Music Boarding School for Gifted Children” in the Department of Pop Instruments, electric guitar class. He created a large number of arrangements, transcriptions, and phonograms for guitar and pop ensemble. In 2025 he moved with his family to Florida (USA).

What to expect in my Guitar Lessons

- - Advanced

In my classes, students can expect a friendly atmosphere, an individual approach, and the development of both technical and creative guitar skills. We will learn to play the best songs of various styles and eras. We will work on musicality, ear, rhythm, and expressiveness of performance, and master different styles depending on the student's interests.

Formal Education:

Full-time study at the Pavlodar Music College. I was brought up in the wonderful musical atmosphere of the Jazz Orchestra under the direction of the Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sheikin V.T. I was brought up in the wonderful musical atmosphere of the Jazz Orchestra under the direction of the Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sheikin V.T. In addition to Sheikin, I was greatly influenced by wonderful teachers, including: Staverov S.V., Denisenko V.P., Popov T.G., Shlegel V.A., and many others. It was an unforgettable time!

Private Education:

During my studies at the Music College and University (6 years) I took private lessons in the following subjects: Specialty (Guitar), Piano, Harmony, Instrumentation, Jazz Improvisation, Choral Conducting.

Performing Experience:

From 1996 to 2024, I was a member of the worship team at the local church (Guitar, Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar, Piano). From 2009 to 2011, I worked as a bass guitarist in the City Jazz Orchestra. In 2016, I led the Vocal and Instrumental Ensemble "North Wind". In 2018, I became one of the winners of the Altyn-Art Kazakhstan Composers Competition (composition "Dance of Wanderers" from the Quiet Wind suite for symphony orchestra). In 2020, I became one of the winners of the Altyn-Art Kazakhstan Composers Competition with the composition "Barefoot Through Puddles". The following year, 2021, this piece was performed by the famous violinist Dinara Bazarbayeva as part of the Almaty Symphony Orchestra in the organ hall of the Almaty Conservatory. In 2021, on the basis of the Music College, he organized the Ensemble "New Sound". In 2024,M.I. wrote a Fantasy on the theme of Isa Baizakov "Zheldirme" and an Arrangement for the College Anthem "Suyem Seni, Mekenim!" for the Pop Symphony Orchestra. Both of these works were performed as final numbers at the anniversary concert in honor of the 65th anniversary of the Music College.
