Most of my performance experience was in high school band, choir, and theater in the DFW area. I played the bassoon for 7 years, getting first chair in the Regional UIL contest, and competing in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble competition as both a bassoonist and a vocalist. I performed on bass guitar (and briefly on upright bass) for my district's competition jazz band for five years at everything from competitions to community events and bullying my jazz band friends to accompany me during one of my solo vocal pieces at a Christmas concert. I also played the clarinet competitively all through high school, since no one will let you march with a bassoon. When the jazz band got an exchange student who was an orchestral bass player, we would take turns playing bass and I would play the jazz flute part on my clarinet for performances. I still occasionally bust out the clarinet for teaching the science of sound at assemblies. In the last few years where my focus has been vocal performance, I've performed in about 25 private voice recitals over the last twelve years doing everything from Ella Fitzgerald to Mozart to comedy musical theater numbers. I've also accompanied myself on the piano a few times whenever my music has been particularly silly.

I've been an educator in various settings for the last 8 years, from infancy and early childhood all the way through introductory college chemistry. For the last five years, I've been working as a private tutor and science educator at assemblies, and even as a classroom STEAM teacher for 4th-8th grade students.
