About Me
I am a soprano who is passionate about teaching music to people of all ages and abilities! I believe that freedom in creative expression is vital to the art of singing, and so is accurate technique. It is crucial to me that my students understand the gift of their voice, their value as a human, and their ability to accomplish amazing musical things.

What to expect in my Vocal Lessons

Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced

You can expect your first voice lesson with me to be more of a trial/intake lesson. I like to learn a bit about my students and their musical goals to gauge how lessons will proceed. We'll talk about your favorite artists, your musical experience (none required!), and what you would personally like to improve as a vocalist. I'll walk you through some vocal warm-ups to test your range and, if time, we will peruse some song options and see what interests you. It's important to me that my students enjoy what pieces they work on! Regular voice lessons with me will include a warm-up to get started, a vocal exercise to improve technique, practice with music theory basics (for beginning musicians who wish to read music), and rehearsing the piece of music of your choice. Each lesson will conclude with a brief overview of what we covered that day and a practice goal to work towards for the next lesson. My teaching philosophy: I believe that the human voice is the most unique instrument in the world. Singing is a way to connect to your own body and soul, and each person has a unique sound that cannot be replicated. It is important to me that each vocal student is valued first and foremost as an individual, and not simply as the carrier of an instrument. I believe students must be met with respect and compassion, wherever they are in life, and encouraged to bring their individuality into the studio. I aim to make my studio a safe place for all students, a place which discriminates against no one, and which fosters a creative learning environment.

Performing Experience:

I have performed primarily as a classical singer, performing in dozens of opera productions and oratorio concerts. I have also performed in musicals, modern operas, recitals, and as a choral singer. I have also sung competitively for competitions like NATS, MTNA, and university and high school contests. Before pursuing music as a vocalist, I spent years playing violin and performing in local youth and community orchestras.

Experience Teaching:

I have been teaching private voice lessons for three years, as well as fundamental music theory (reading music, learning notation, etc.) and music history. I have taught a variety of ages and abilities, from elementary school kids to undergrads to retirees. My voice students have participated in performances and competitions from collegiate-level voice juries and concerts to rock bands, community ensembles, and musical theater productions.
