About Me
My name is Brian and I love all types of music. When I was 14 years old I went to a little church basement to watch an older cousin play guitar with his preacher’s band. As the preacher led the group through two hours of raucous southern rock and rockabilly, I couldn’t stop staring at the drummer, who was the preacher’s son. Eventually he got tired and decided he was done playing, even though the rest of the band wanted to continue. I spoke up and said, “I think I can do it.” They asked if I had ever played drums before to which I replied no. So I sat down behind the kit, picked up the sticks, and the preacher counted us in. We played several songs together and I even ventured some tom tom riffs. They couldn’t believe I hadn’t played, much less even seen a drum set before that. I was hooked for life from that day on! Sometimes things come easy, but usually it takes a lot of hard work to get good at something. My parents couldn’t afford a drum set for me so I scraped together whatever I could to create a slipshod kit just to be able to practice. I put a mallet between my toes because I didn’t even have a bass pedal! But I kept woodshedding and eventually bought my first kit. I learned to play every kind of music I could, from thrash metal to jazz, eventually taking lessons to learn how to read. My first live show was one song at an assembly in my high school auditorium. I played in many local bands in later years, one that won a top local band contest and was played on 105.7 The Point, as well as a Disco cover band with an award winning singer thing that also played at my wedding! These days I’m learning to produce and record music at home. One of the most important things about learning to play music is to have fun! I believe technique should be taught playing the music YOU love and want to play. Not only will we practice the independence to be able to use all four limbs, but also vital things like tuning, how to hit to get the sound you want, tricks to keep steady time, and so much more! I look forward to getting to know you as a student and learning about your specific goals, interests, and learning style. Book a lesson now and get connected right away!
