About Me

My name is Tanner. I first started my musical experience with the euphonium back in 7th grade here in ABQ at Desert Ridge Middle School. I then attended the New Mexico Military Institute for high school where I continued to play Euphonium in the regimental band. Additionally, I taught myself the trombone during my sophomore year of high school because I was interested in joining the jazz band. I finished high school playing in a small combo club and I also saw myself attending all state music competition for euphonium my senior year of high school where I played first chair. I also attended three consecutive years of military school band festival where I also played first chair for euphonium. I then stayed at the New Mexico Military Institute for another two years to complete their two year junior college program where I continued to play for the regimental band and even found myself in charge of the regimental band during my sophomore year of college. After earning my associates in computer science, I transferred to the University of New Mexico to finish my under graduate studies. Back in ABQ, I joined the High Desert Big Band where I currently play lead trombone and later joined Ivon Ulibarri and Cafe Mocha to play trombone. I earned my bachelor of science in computational mathematics from the University of New Mexico and am currently a graduate student at UNM. Though I didn't study music in school, it has been a very important aspect of my life and I hope to share it with others who are interested in playing music. My experience lies with jazz and salsa music which encapsulates everything from combo level improvisation to lead roles in an ensemble.
